Better Skiing: Comfort Zone

Welcome to this edition of Better Skiing, I’m Bruce Ruff.
I’m sure that you have heard the term comfort zone. That is where you’re neither challenged nor bored while skiing. To become a better skier, you need to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself.

This is where skiing becomes mental. You need to realize that you ski certain types of terrain very well. You need to take that good technique and go to terrain you don’t normally ski.
Here are some tips to overcome your mental barriers. If you know a trail becomes very steep, don’t stop at the top of the face and look down, instead make rhythmic turns into the pitch with controlled aggression and rip down it. When you get to the bottom, turn around and look up and it will give you a lot of self-confidence. If you’re hesitant to ski bumps, try skiing the side of the bump run where the bumps are small. After you build up confidence, you’ll be skiing right down the center of the bump run. Tomorrow, get out of your comfort zone and improve your skiing.
