Better Skiing: Fat Skis

Welcome to this edition of Better Skiing, I’m Bruce Ruff.
Have you noticed the trend? Skis are getting shorter and wider. Take a look around in any lift line. What’s with the wide skis anyway?

Wide skis and shorter skis are here for good. They provide an easy turning, stable platform with better flotation than a narrow ski. They ski everything well. These skis incorporate the latest technology so that stability and carving ability is not sacrificed in the shorter lengths. Now with less swing weight, greater maneuverability, and the flotation factor these skis go anywhere, and they are fun. The wide skis are no longer just for powder skiing. Many have enough side cut so that you can carve up the groomed runs as well. So, if you’re in the market for new skis or you want to demo before you buy, don’t overlook the wider skis – give ‘em a try.
