Better Skiing: Ski/Boot Contact
Welcome to this edition of Better Skiing, I’m Bruce Ruff.
Next time you put on your ski boots, I want you to think of me. Stop and look at the sole of your ski boots. I want you to check out the toe and the heel of your boots. Are they nice and square or all rounded off and chewed up from walking in them? If they are nice and square, go ski. If not, then listen up.
First, do your boots have a replaceable heel and toe? If so, see your dealer and get them replaced. If not, it is time to think about replacing your boots. Your boots are the most important part of your equipment because they transfer your energy to the ski. If the contact point between the boot and the binding is worn you will lose energy and control over your ski. This would be like driving a Porsche with no power steering - It might as well be a Ford Pinto. So, check out your boots to make sure you’re getting the most out of your skiing. A worn boot sole can also compromise the safety of your binding. Make sure you’re not only safe but have total control over your skis.
