Better Skiing: Boot Alignment

Welcome to this edition of Better Skiing, I’m Bruce Ruff.
Most people know when their car needs a front end alignment because there is a steering problem. Yet, most skiers don’t have a clue about boot alignment. Boot alignment is critical because skiing is a balance-based sport. How you stand in your boots effects your forward and backward balance as well as your side to side balance on your skis. Your side to side balance determines if you are standing on a flat ski or not.

Ski boots are made in a mold and each one comes out the same. The problem is, no two people stand the same or have the same lower leg alignment. This is why you should have your boots aligned so you are standing perfectly flat on your skis. Boot alignment specialists use a canting method to make sure you have perfect balance forward and back, and side to side including the matching of the upper boot to your leg. Boot alignment just may be the critical factor in elevating your skiing ability this season.

How much should one pay for boot alignment & fitting? Can you recommend any shops? We live in Central Denver.

Thx

Dear Bruce,

Help, I need new boots and alignment before my clinic at Beaver Creek April 3,4. Will be out at Copper Mtn on April 2nd to ski and get new boots. Can you help me? do you watch your skiiers to figure out the problem? I heard that people do this to better fit the clients. I hope to hear from you soon.
