Shredder Family
As with many jobs, there can be some pretty cool perks. I’d have to say that working here with Colorado Ski Country USA, I’ve certainly enjoyed some of the extra skiing it has allowed me. But no perk beats the fact that because of this job, my husband and our 3 kiddos have been able to afford to do a lot of family skiing in this year!
If you don’t have kids, you may not full appreciate how difficult it can be to get a couple small fries up on the slopes. If you have kids, you know how hard it can be to just get out the door WITH all their gear, not to mention the numerous potty breaks, picky eaters and lost mittens! The added difficulty of varying different skill levels also becomes a challenge when you’re out numbered on the mountain. For starters, our 10 year old daughter is a snowboarder and neither her father nor I know the first thing about boarding so we’re not much help to her. Our second child at 8 years old is quickly becoming a great skier who prefers speed to just about anything else. Lastly, is our sweet little 4 year old skier. We love him dearly but if there is one person in this world that will make me have second thoughts about hitting the slopes, it would be him. Now don’t get me wrong! With those big blue eyes, red hair and chubby cheeks…it’s very hard to not do as he pleases! But at the age of four when you’re trying really hard to establish your independence in the world, apparently it’s nearly impossible to agree with the rest of the family! “I don’t wanna ski!” “Ok maybe just once for a candy bar!” “I wanna go down a blue all by myself…oh…wait, maybe not!” You get the picture.
As you can see, skiing with the family has many challenges. If we go as a family, I chalk up the day as a day I don’t really get to ski! Sure I put my gear on but I generally don’t get to challenge myself much, except for maybe my patience! But at the end of the day when the kids are sacked out in the back set of the car and your camera is jam-packed with picture of the biggest smiles you can image, it’s all worth it!
Who’s the hooded figure in the back? Not comfortable having his true identity exposed? Hope this blog grows - there’re plenty of shredding families out there who need help gyrating to, and through, the gnar! And think of all those that can’t even imagine approaching it!
Hey, what a great blog! I found out a couple of weeks ago how fun it can be to hit the slopes with other shredder families! The kids have fun, and the adults can play, too. Shred on…
