For those of you who struggle with romantic ideas for Valentine’s Day, I’ve assembled a list of ways to wow your honey. Trust me, I’m a local. These will warm the heart and possibly earn a kiss… The two key ingredients: Snow & the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Here are a couple tidbits to get you started- 1. A sleigh ride in Breckenridge ending with dinner, live music, and time by the fire place. 2. Ride Telluride’s gondola under the bright Milky Way. What better place to profess your love than overlooking starlit ski country?

10. The most important Valentine’s Day Tip? Spend TIME with your loved one. Sweep them up to Eldora for a little snowshoeing. Walk through the woods and snow, hold hands, and talk to each other. Then head to Nederland for a true Colorado mountain town outing. Or keep heading down the road to Boulder. Either way, time will be on your side.
9. The Saturday following Valentine’s Day, SolVista is the place to be. Take your baby night skiing, hit up a concert, and chat by the outdoor fire ring. But don’t tell her it’s all free. She’ll wonder how you could ever afford such a great trip AND a room at the Inn at Silver Creek.
8. The Ski Train and Winter Park go together like Valentine’s Day and Romance. Leave the car at home and take a scenic ride from Denver to Winter Park on the Ski Train for a day schussing down the slopes. Be sure to head to the top of Parsenn Bowl for sweet panoramic views of the Continental Divide, then enjoy the leisurely ride back to Denver with your sweetheart at your side. You may just earn a smooch or two.
7. Sunlight Mountain, just outside of the quaint Glenwood Springs, has exactly what you and that special someone need to help you relax after a Valentine’s Day of skiing: the world-famous Hot Springs Pool. Sunlight’s Ski, Swim, & Stay package offers a romantic weekend getaway including snowy slopes, a warm soak, and a snug suite. What better way to say, “I love you”?
6. High altitude may thin the blood, but snuggling with the right person warms the heart. One of my favorite snuggle spots? Telluride’s spectacular gondola, which runs until midnight. Ride it from town to the mountain and back while soaking up the starlit Rockies and maybe some soft lips. After your ride, make your way to The Bluepoint for dinner and drinks. The short one block walk from the base of the gondola will give you time to cool off, before the fabulous food and chic atmosphere warm you right back up again.
5. For couples who’ve already exchanged rings and would like to renew their vows, as well as those who would like to get married for the first time, Loveland Ski Area hosts a mass wedding on Valentine’s Day at the top of Chair 2. Then spend the day playing on the mountain and enjoying your mate’s company.
4. In Breckenridge, you are swept along picturesque snow-covered valleys on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride with views of the Ten Mile Mountain Range while nestled under warm blankets and a brilliant star-filled sky. You are then treated to an elegant dinner in the Gold Run Mountain Lodge with live music in front of a warm stone fireplace.
3. Take the 14th off and head to Vail. Ski to your heart’s content with your loved one at your side. Then grab drinks and appetizers at Pepi’s Gasthof Gramshammer. At six, make your way to the Bud Light Street Beat outdoor concert. Live music is always enjoyable- especially in the middle of Vail Village. Make reservations for a late dinner at the Swiss Chalet. Stay to enjoy drinks or head downstairs to the main lobby of Sonnenalp Resort of Vail where you’ll find a cozy piano bar. It will be a night that is simply unforgettable.
2. Let the Steamboat Gondola whisk you up the mountain to a waiting snowcat-drawn sleigh where you’ll snuggle under warm wool blankets and sip hot chocolate while gliding underneath starry skies to Ragnar’s restaurant. There you’ll enjoy a five-course dinner with a Scandinavian flavor and live acoustic entertainment.
1. After a day of cruising Aspen’s Lover’s Lane, relax with a couple’s massage at The Aspen Club and Spa. Then stroll the streets of downtown Aspen, arm-in-arm, leading one another to the perfect romantic dining destination, Cache Cache. Dim lighting, French cuisine, and a stunning wine list make for a Valentine’s Day to remember. Don’t forget to have your concierge fill your hotel room with champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and rose petals for your return.
