Aspen Highland's Deep Temerity is Steep Temerity
I hadn’t skied in Aspen for about 10 years and had never made it over to Aspen Highlands. In town for ESPN Winter X Games 11, I had some free time each morning to get out and play. On Sunday, my first run of the day at Aspen Highlands was on Kessler …
Kessler follows the lift line of the Deep Temerity lift and is one of the steepest and most challenging lift accessed trails I have found and top that off with bumps, trees, and drop offs - makes for a great experience. Mind you it was not only my first run of the day but it was also my second day back on alpine ski gear (day one was the prior morning at Aspen Mountain) since becoming a tele-guy in the early 90’s.
Not only did I love Deep Temerity but I also fell in love with my new Salomon 1080 Foils and X Wave 8 boots (not super high performance but extremely comfortable). Not saying that I have abandoned Tele (the Atomic Snoop Daddy with tele bindings is in my near future) but skiing Highlands was a blast on alpine gear.
X Games at Buttermilk was of course stellar with many of Colorado’s finest taking home gold including Breckenridge’s Steve Fisher winning gold in Men’s Snowboard Superpipe (knocking out reigning 4 time gold winner Shaun White) and Casey Puckett from Aspen taking it pole to pole in men’s skiercross avoiding all the crashes to take gold. If you missed ESPN Winter X Games 11 at Aspen - make plans for next year and if you have never skied Aspen Highlands - what are you waiting for?
